Marketing Plans for Small Businesses

Marketing a business, especially a small business such as a medical practice or a dental practice, can be a difficult thing since the company isn’t spread out over a variety of towns or states. Most medical or dental practices aren’t known outside of the area that they are located in. Why? It just doesn’t happen. Sometimes, people that live near the practice don’t even know that the practice is established near their place of work or their place of residence. So how does a small business owner market their business to the public? It can be difficult but it can be done.

The first thing a doctor or dentist should do when marketing their practice is to send birthday cards or holiday greeting cards to their current clients to remind them that they are thought of on special days throughout the year. The next time a client is in the office the doctor should hand the client the practice’s recent newsletter or ask them if they would like to be signed up for the practice’s monthly newsletter that is sent out via email.

Another marketing ploy is to offer current clients a discount on certain services if they refer a certain amount of new clients to the practice. A discount always grabs people’s attention. A lot of towns have free newspapers that they circulate to the public once a week. Advertise in those local papers. The practice could also publish press releases or other information about the practice in those local papers. Send the press release to local media outlets as well. For instance, if the practice has decided to move to a larger location, make sure your new address and information gets out to the public.
