The world of marketing is a complex world with various terms and definitions that business people should know and have a working knowledge of if they wish to be successful in the business world when it comes to marketing. The following terms are some of the most important and common terms used in the marketing world today:

Ad Copy: This is the printed text or spoken words in an advertisement used to promote an individual’s or company’s product.

Advertising Budget: This is the money set aside by an advertiser to pay for advertising and the budget varies depending on the popularity of the product.

Brand: This is a name, term, design or symbol that differentiates one seller’s product from another seller’s product.

Demographics: These are a group of classifications that a product’s seller uses to determine how to market or advertise their product. The classifications include the consumer’s age, sex, race, income, education, size of household, ownerhship of home and much more.

Jingle: This is a short song used to promote a product by mentioning the product’s name or other features during the length of the song.

Market Profile: This is a summary of a specific area where a product is being marketed such as the economy of the area and the retail patterns of the area.

Publicity: This is when a company will promote a product, service, or idea in the media with the use of a news story or a press release. Both the news story and the press release will convey information about the product.
